Generating Android keystore file

July 15, 2013 16:02

For an Android – Phonegap Application which is build using build.phonegap.com, if the application is to be released, a keystore file is required to sign the application. Keystore file is a typical information file or a certificate which brands your application.

The Android keystore file can be generated using Java Development Kit. Its a command line tool.

Step to create the file.

  1. Login as administrator.
  2. Open cmd
  3. goto c:\program files\java\jdk1.7.0 (On Windows cd path)
  4. goto bin (On Windows cd bin)
  5. keytool -genkey -v -keystore YOUR_KEYSTORE_FILE_NAME.keystore -alias YOUR_KEYSTORE_ALIAS -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 10000
  6. Fill the information which is asked (Password, First Name & Last Name, Organizational Unit, Organization, City, State, 2 Letter Country Code)
  7. Finally to confirm the details
  8. Again it will ask for a key password, this is different from the above one, but you can keep them same

After completion of above steps you can get the file from bin folder.

Provide this file to your phonegap build along with the certificate & keystore password and your app is ready to role.
